[fashion] Happiness

I love to happen upon these early 90s Prince pictures!!! Not part of my black and white headshot series, but a treasure and treat nonetheless!

Love life and live it to the fullest. Speak your mind, do your part, be yourself, and learn from mistakes. Don't regret. Until next time!

[me] Sitting On My Biscuit, Not Having To Risk It

Just wanted to check in on all the roaming internet lovelies and let you know what I've been doing the past few days (besides summer assignments...I feel a resounding "boo" coming on).
1. Watching The Office, Under the Cherry Moon, Graffiti Bridge (LOVE that soundtrack), and Spice World!!!
2. Listening to the greatest album I've heard this week, Come by Prince. It's like a movie, but only sound. Clever phrasing, thank you very much.
3. Realizing the utter importance of bead bracelets, Doc Martens, and jobs.

So for a quick window into my soul, I've had an epiphany about an hour ago that I really have so little/nothing to complain about. School is school, and one day I'll miss it. I'm only so fresh on this earth, and I want to take one step at a time. And salads have become an integral part of my diet. Sorta. But when they aren't, there's always crunches to save the day :)

Love love love life and don't take anything 4 granted.
Peace and be wild,
Cams

[fashion] Time Warp

It's bedtime in the USA and morning in Japan.

[fashion] Sign Of The Times

Reasons I know the end is near: 1) I swear there is less ink in my Sharpies every time I buy new ones*, 2) Prince stopped singing about sex, 3) Crocs exist. And soon at Nordstrom.

Just let that simmer.

AT. NORDSTROM. How could they do this to me?!?* I love Nordstrom with a steaming passion, but this is a serious downgrade. No wonder I've been seeing an influx of ugly shoes there! The marketing and sales team is just trying to prepare us for the Antichrist that are Crocs.* I even see commercials for Crocs nowadays. And something about the new styles they introduce remind me of TOMS. A dowdier, laughable take on them. I don't give a damn about comfort. If I want comfort, I'll sleep in a coffin. They're very soft, at least that's what my vampire friends say. Bella, Jacob, Edward, you know, the Twilight crew. Speaking of which, they have a clothing line and BAM here we are back to Nordstrom! But seriously....no.

*I'm not being overdramatic. This is my life.

IN OTHER NEWS-

Royal blue nails are wildly attractive. On me, at least. Just a head's up.

Lovelovelove,
Camille

PS- I am in no way in favor of or endorsing the phenomena that is Twilight. But I cannot ignore that it exists.

:D

[life] Rewind, ERASE, Review

I've posted a few times about how education is perceived in society. I've complained about the stress that is put upon young people to achieve and expressed that I felt it unreasonable. But that is only one side of the story.
On the side of adults, specifically the Baby-Boomer generation, I do, in fact, feel they put an unnatural load on us with the existence of mega-exclusive Ivy Leagues and the promise that a rigorous education will lead to "success". But from a younger perspective, I also know that we need to participate actively in this. Meaning we still need to do what is expected of us. Maybe I was wrong to complain so early on this journey and decrease the enjoyment I could have along the way. Now that I've reached a happy medium, I want to completely explain my sentiments and my plan of action.
Formal education is too important in this society. That is my truth. I believe that the best teacher I will ever be fortunate enough to have is life. There are times in life when you learn things that you never would have found in your science textbook. I do not like the fact that if you blindly trust everything you find in your school books, you will be ejected out into the world with no street-smarts and no common sense. But that's the world I live in. HOWEVER (EVER...ever*), because this is the way the world is right now, it is the duty of any student to accept that they have to learn more in school than their parents, suck it up, and do it. Now is not the time to become weary and complain. The time to complain is after it's all said and done, that way, one can reflect on the quest for formal knowledge as a whole, and not in pieces (like I do). It is IMPERATIVE, though, that while doing the things expected of you, to not willingly agree to everything written in a book. A good student (contrary to popular belief), is not one who gets good grades, but who gets the grades they deserve because they question what is widely accepted, argue the opposing viewpoints to discover the flaws in an original idea, and explore the truths beyond what is on the next assessment. While I am not at this level yet, I aspire to be.
In conclusion, my pledge for this upcoming year is to change the way I approach school with the hopes that I will form less of a mind-block against things I don't like. In the words of Whitney Houston, "It's not right, but it's OKAY..."

*an echo. Since I figured a few of you wouldn't catch that. :)

Haha. That's about it for now. Toodles!

[fashion] The Countdown: 1990s

Tonight we're gonna party like it's 1999! NOT!!! :)

Now I am, in a way, an expert at 90s fashion. The colors and patterns and the excess of jeans in some way warms my heart. But onto the good stuff!

Fashion LIKES: denim (it wasn't all bad!), crop tops, grunge movement, polo shirts, and THE MAKEUP MAKEUP MAKEUP! Did I mention that I really liked the makeup? I just want to be sure. I am in a desperately frantic frenzy of emotion right now trying to figure out exactly how lipstick was applied in that time. Oh, the faces of these 90s women....gorgeous. OH! And we must not forget the excess of 90s girl power (and the neon Lycra clothing that went with it)!

I had to do it! Check out the last bit of the video for the makeup inspiration. Mayte. Not Prince :)

I tried to limit the amount of pictures I used, but once I started there was no stopping!

Fashion DISLIKES: Trashy pop. Oh wait, that's not fashion. Trashy pop with color-coordinated outfits. Similar to the Pussycat Dolls (but DO NOT confuse with the Spice Girls)! Additional dislikes include the tube top, BLUE EYESHADOW WITH RED LIPSTICK (eyesore...), tie-dye, belly button piercings, Keds, knee-high boots, and corduroy. I actually owned corduroy pants. AND WORE THEM.

Sorry, Brit, I had to do it. I will admit there was a solid year in the 90s where I thought you were cooler than sliced bread.

:)

Favorite outfits of the decade:
Ask me if I'd wear this if it was hanging in my closet right now. Go on then, ask!

Muffy looks a little too tan in this picture, and that is not Buster's regular shirt (yes, I know all the
characters names...no comment). Other than that, style icons for sure!

I will say that socially, the 90's were a wonderful time. Pre-terrorist activities (that I know of), pre-economic downturn. The music was progressive, there was significant social acceptance, Arthur was on, and people were just happy. And that made me happy.

Not everything has to stay in the past.
